So pleased to finally be writing my second blog after what feels like an age!
The dreaded Covid struck in November and saw me confined to bed for a number of weeks followed by all-consuming post viral fatigue. This alongside various parenting stresses (that you will hear about in my next blog!), Covid spreading through the family and learning the ropes in a new job, pushed my body over its tolerance threshold.
I’ll be honest, I felt myself slipping back into old and unhealthy habits of addressing the fatigue; a significant increase in my caffeine consumption, an almighty increase in my sugar intake and refusing to give in to the fatigue, often going to bed later than usual to keep up with my parenting and work responsibilities.
WHAM!
Give way for the perfect storm and the debilitating but familiar effects on my body; brain fog (not helpful in a new job!), weakness, joint pain, supressed appetite (made worse by having no taste or smell), persistent sore throat, and insomnia to name a few.
Even when you are very familiar with your triggers and how to keep yourself well, it can be easy to fall back on old coping mechanisms in times of need. They key is not allowing them to persist! Make small changes everyday to get yourself back on track.
Thankfully, I am pleased to report that I am now back on track, prioritising and pacing.
For me, there are key aspects that keep my body on track – my magic formula if you like….
S + V + MS + H / P / W + FA + HS x R 10 = Happy Me!
This translates as:
Sleep + Vitamins + Morning Shakes + Hydration / Parenting / Work + Fresh Air + Head Space x Rest10 = Happy & functioning me! I’d love to hear how you prioritise and pace, what’s your magic formula? Please comment below.
